Introduction
Hobbits are unusual creatures and with unusual ways. It was two of these creatures that founded the Shire in 1601, Marcho and Blanco was their names and they were two Bree-hobbits.
By 2890 the Shire had become well established and the families were all in close contact. The harvests were plentiful and there was enough to drink. The Shire had become a very close community since it had been founded.
The Hobbits of the Shire had learned in the growing of pipe-weed and the brewing of ale. They were a peaceful race and nobody ever disturbed them, not even the Big-Folk (Men).
Hobbit was the name that the Shire-Folk had given themselves and all their kind. Big-Folk (Men) would call them halflings and the elves Periannath.
The word Hobbit derived from the rohirrim word 'holbytla' which means 'hole-builder'
