About Hobbits

Home Hobbits in the Movies

There are three types of hobbits:

  1. The Stoors

  2. The Fallohides

  3. The Harfoots

Below is some information on the differences between them.

The Stoors

The Stoors are a much heavier and broader hobbit, they have larger hands and feet. These hobbits prefer flat lands and river sides when they are settling down. The Stoors are less shy of the Big-Folk (Men), than any of the other hobbits, that is why they are less surprisingly more around Bree, than any other of the types.

The Fallohides

The Fallohides are fairer of skin and hair and are usually taller and slimmer than any of the other hobbits. They can sometime grow to over four feet in height. This type of hobbit was more adventurous, they were lovers of trees and woodlands, so not surprisingly more friendly with other races, especially with the elves.

By the time of the war of the ring the Fallohides could be found in two main families, the Tooks and the Brandybucks.

The Harfoots

The Harfoots are small in height and browner in colour. Although they would prefer highlands and hillsides, they were more apt to settle down in one place and had more love for living in holes than any of the other types. The Harfoots were by far the most numerous and in the earlier days they dealt much more with dwarves.

General information

Although hobbits are small and are quite simple creatures they should not be underestimated. Hobbits can be very quick and clever when they need to be, for example when they need to hide from the Big-Folk (Men) they can never be spotted its as if their actions are controlled by magic.
