The director who managed to change 3 brilliant books into 3 magnificent films was Peter Jackson. At first he thought that he should have done The Hobbit, but in the end he decided to do Lord of the Rings. The Lord of the Rings movies were filmed in New Zealand, Wellington and most of the movie was shot on location. Thanks to New Line Cinema, 3 fantastic films were made.

In the Lord of the Rings movie there were five main hobbits in the movies and five actors who played them. Their names are

Bilbo Baggins -- Ian Holm

bullet

Frodo Baggins -- Elijah Wood

bullet

Samwise Gamgee -- Sean Astin

bullet

Meriadoc (aka Merry) Brandybuck -- Dominic Monaghan

bullet

Peregrin (aka Pippin) Took -- Billy Boyd

These actors did a fantastic job playing these hobbits and they made them come alive.

Although these films were a big hit and profited in millions, sometimes it was the little details that could put a fan off of the films, but in this case these films were spot on and in the extended versions, you would come to see why the film had been made that way. For fans this was a brilliant ideas, but for people who had only watched the films, they would just be better off buying the normal version.

In the films the hobbits friendship got put to the test. In the fellowship of the ring the story starts to unfold when Bilbo leaves behind the ring for Frodo and Gandalf goes away to inspect what and whose ring it actually belonged to before Gollum (Smeagol). When Gandalf returned, Frodo got the shock of his life and because of his friends he managed to get to Bree in one piece.

Frodo and his friends then got to Rivendell in one piece, thanks to their new friend Strider. While there Frodo got summoned to a council meeting and that is where the fellowship was formed and his friends stuck by him.

By the time they reached Parth Galen, the fellowship had broke and Frodo and Sam carried onto Mordor, while Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli went to rescue Merry and Pippin.

This story continues in The Two Towers and into the Return of the King.
