Bilbo Baggins

The Bagginses were used to be known as the most respectable hobbit family in The Shire, but because Bungo Baggins married a Took, Bilbo Baggins inherited the Took family traits, then because of him the family name became not as respectable as it used to be.

J.R.R. Tolkien first wrote about Bilbo and his first adventure in the Hobbit, basically he travelled with 13 Dwarves and a Wizard to the forest and home of Beorn. That is where Gandalf the Wizard left them and they carried on with their adventure alone. From there they went to Smaug the Dragon's mountain and retook it from him,( as it used to belong to the dwarves). Bilbo returned home with plenty of gold and riches and no-one ever found out where he hid it all.

On this adventure Bilbo showed great courage and friendship towards the dwarves (even though they did eat most of his food when they first met). He used his brains to help them out of a sticky situation, when they all got trapped by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon.

But what no-one knew is that on the adventure he acquired a magic ring and in the Fellowship of the Ring when he has to give the ring to Frodo and travel to Rivendell, you can start to see his age in his looks.

For what some did not realise is that the magic ring was giving him an extra long life and when he gives it up, his body finally realises that he is old and therefore his appearance changes.
